Sunday is one of my days I get to go for long bike rides. So when The weather app said it was only 34 degrees outside, I hesitated to commit to the ride. I was thinking about my skin and not the quality of time that comes with riding my bike. The cold does dehydrate your skin and I am all ready on the dry side. I thought to myself, I am an esthetician, I know how to handle this.
I started with a Vitamin C serum from Osmosis. It helps increase the effectiveness of your sunscreen. Next up, my hydropeptide sunscreen. After that, I applied a layer of Aquaphor. Yes, I did just say that it. Aquaphor, is a petrolatum based product ( if you wanted to you could use non-petroleum based health food store product). In this situation, that’s exactly what I was looking for and had on hand. Something that was going to create a barrier to help protect my skin from the cold wind and keep my own moisture balance in my epidermis. It worked ! My face felt comfortable throughout my entire ride and didn’t get wind burned or chapped at all.
You can do this for many outdoor cold weather sports, especially skiing and snowboarding. Just make sure you cleanse your skin well afterwards. I used and would recommend the Osmosis purify cleansing gel. It worked beautifully to remove the Aquaphor and my face and body couldn’t be any happier with today’s outdoor activities!
